iMac running super slow after yosemite update

My iMac, early 2008 version, has the following specs:

speed: 2.4 GHz

memory: 2 GB 800 MH

storage: 249.2 GB

I updated my os last June from Lion to Yosemite, 10.10.5. The computer operates

at an unbelievably slow rate; the pinwheel is a frequent appearance. No viruses detected.

What can I do? Thanks, JoJo

Not enough available disk space can slow your Mac down.

Click the Apple  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage

Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space. OS X Tips Where did my Disk Space go?

Anti virus software can also slow your Mac down. Which one do you have installed?

Add RAM. The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.
