itunes running slow when changing song names

I have latest 12.2.2 version of iTunes. Have a large library of 1TB+ in an Lacie 2TB external hard disk connected via Thunderbolt. Still every time I want to change a song name or modify information on an album it seems to take forever to do so. The clock appears and eventually will be resolved yet the experience is very different from past versions. Any solution to this issue?

Every time you change a single tag iTunes has to:

- Rewrite the media file.

- Recalculate all your smart playlists.

- Rewrite the iTunes Library.itl file

- I'm guessing here but maybe also do something in connection with cloud related services such as Genius.

A big library means it takes even longer.

People never say here what they mean by "slow" which leaves me wondering if by "slow" they have to wait 10 seconds instead of 5.
