Q: iPhone Remote App keeps dropping Apple TV Access

We have had Apple TVs for a long time, and have always used the remote app on our iPhones. However, the past several months, the iPhone Remote App just loses both of our Apple TVs randomly. The app opens and says to turn on home sharing so that it can find the TVs.

We have restarted the Apple TV, unplugged it and plugged it back in, and both of those things work, but only for a day or so when the app stops working again.

We are tired of having to restart and unplug every time just to use the remote app.

Is there something I'm missing that is causing the remote app to keep messing up?

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.

Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.

There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.
