Can an iPod and its content be transferred to another person's Apple ID?

I am wanting to purchase an iPod as a gift for a family member and would like to already have it set up with some music on there at the time of the gift.

By doing the initial setup and music purchases with my Apple ID, can the iPod and its content be transferred to my family member's Apple ID after the gift?
