To upgrade OS X or not?

I have a 4 yo MacBook with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63). I need to upgrade Safari 6.1.6 but don't know if I should. I keep reading that there are problems with the newest version of the OS X. What is your experience? I haven't added any software other than Turbo Tax and a few unimportant apps.

What are the risks of upgrading? How much will it cost?

Any help/advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yosemite, the latest OSX is free. You can go to the App store and download it.

The problem is that it will be more demanding on your Macbook resources and perhaps you should consider installing additional RAM.

Download and post an Etrecheck report. That will help me assist you with what may or may not be able to do.
