Mac Apps Not Launching

A selection of pre installed Mac apps are failing to open. Mac App Store, Safari, Mail & Chat all bounce once and fail to open.

Mid 09 iMac, running 10.10.4

I've repaired permissions and restarted with no luck.

This is what I got from the Console…

You may have one or more obsolete copies of the application(s), and the OS is trying to launch one of those copies.

Search Spotlight for the application's name. You should get only one result, on an item in the Applications folder. If you get more than one result, where are the others? To show the location of a search result, select it and press the command key. Depending on where the other copies are, Spotlight might not show them.

Another possibility is that you ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" to delete language localizations. In that case, uninstall the "utility" according to the developer's instructions, back up all data, and then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.

There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.

If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.
