INternet Explorer disappeared

IE disappeared from my imac, 10.3.9. The former icon in the dock has a ? mark over it. My 7yr. old and her friends were on the machine playing games but I don't see how they could have eliminated IE. Anyone know how I might retrieve it, along with all of the bookmarks on it? Hank

Kids....Ya got to love'em!!!! It is possible that they moved the app. to a different folder. The dock is just an alias and is linked via a path. So if they moved it the path is no longer valid. Try to find it by closing or minimizing all windows, or until you have the Finder tool bar on top. Click on file>find or just type command(Apple)+f. Choose "Local Disks">Name>Contains> and type in Explorer. If you already did this look for any files that have a .rsrc or .plist

that may be your stored info. I will load Explorer and try to find where these items are stored...

If you find the App. Let me know

Okay, good news & bad news. Your bookmarks can be found in Users>Library>Preferences>Explorer>Favorites.html
"On Panther"
To open the file without IE right click it or hold down the "ctrl"key and click it once. Choose "Get Info" and find the "Open with" and change it to Safari and press return. Close the Get Info window and double click on the file. This will give all your saved bookmarks. The bad news is, if your IE is gone, it's gone forever. Microsoft is no longer supporting Explorer for Mac and you can no longer download it or any updates. If you need another browser other than Safari, I suggest Firefox.

Also there are several free programs to SYNC bookmarks between the different browsers.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I looked for IE on "local disks" and had 0 results. Then on "everywhere" and a few came up, inlcluding "favorites" from Preferences. An IE 2 icon came up on the search but when I clicked it I got a message that it "could not be found" prompting me to "insert the volume" and try again. Thanks for your help. I have Netscape and Safari, but the bookmarks periodically disappear from Netscape, I don't know why. Any suggestions as to how to stop that from happening?

There could be several things that happened to it. The two I most commonly see are the app being dragged to a different folder--which is easy to do from the APP window, just drag to the side bar--the other is being re-named. If it is clicked in a certain combination or speed it could allow for the name to be cleared and replaced sometimes with nothing. Check your App. Folder again and see if there is something new or strange there. If the name is changed then the extension may be omitted, which mean instead of the computer seeing an application it only sees a file. The last is if the right-click was used it opens a menu item "Move to Trash"
Then it would have to be emptied..
