When I take a screenshot of a frame from a DVD that I have made the result is just grey no matter whether I do it in Full screen or not. I have tried downloading FLV Player and Free DVD Ripper which people have suggested but I can't make these applications relate to my DVD pictures. I have tried 'make this frame a Jacket Shot' - doesn't give me an image either. Any suggestions will be welcome. I am on Yosemite OS X 10.10.5.

I see that you're trying to take a screenshot of your DVD Player window. DVD Player does not allow you to take screenshots of its window, and any content in the DVD Player window will be grayed out.
Some apps, such as DVD Player, might not let you take screenshots of their windows.

Apple's own DVD Player will not let you capture a still from a DVD. However if you play your DVD using the free VLC program this will let you capture a still.
