Problem restoring Ipad

I just got a used ipad from a friend that he hadnt used in 2 years. Im having trouble setting up the ipad because it wont let me do anything without entering the password of the past owners icloud account. I contacted the last owner about the password, and it seems that account has been closed and he doesnt remember the password. Tried restoring it from Recovery Mode and it still asks me for the password to be able to set it up. I dont know any other way to try and set it up! Anybody has a way of solving this situation?! Thanks.

Yes, you will need that information in order to set it up. Its called activation lock and is a security precaution.
No, the account isn't closed. He will need to recover the password: If you forgot your Apple ID - Apple Support

Ok, this is the problem now: the person tells me that the email linked to that Apple Id he used to set up the ipad is closed. So if he doesn't remembers the password, he will have to do a password reset, sending the link of the reset to the email linked to that account, which is now closed. How would he deal with this now?
