No, you should be able to just go into an Apple store and buy one (assuming that they have the model/spec that you want in stock). I didn't when I just purchase my new one. Walked in they ask me what I wanted. I pointed at the MBP I wanted. They got from the back in a box and I took it home. It was just that easy.
