how do I remove out-of-date email addresses from autofill

When I start to enter an email address the autofill brings up several addresses, many of which are out of date. I can usually decide what the up-to-date address is, but not always. Is there a simple way to remove the unwanted ones?

Thank you for the time and trouble to reply. The only likely category in

Preferences is "using info from my contacts card" but the offending

addresses are not in the contacts list. If I conduct a search for the rogue

addresses the computer tells me that it can't find them. Yet, when I input

the first three letters of an intended email, several addresses appear,

including the rogue ones. An intriguing problem!
