Q: Photos app won't launch

My Photos app will not launch. It hangs with a spinning wheel and then quits after 30 seconds. The file contains 65 GB of photos but I cannot access them. Help!

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Larry, Unfortunately Photos has never worked on my iMac (although it does on my MBA). My Photos is version 1.01. OS X is 10.10.4. I would appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

OS X 10.10.5 is out - you should update to it

That probably will not change this though

try backing up your iPhoto library and launching iPhoto while holding down the option and command keys (you do need the current version 9..1 - if you do not keep you software up to date see Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store ) and repair permissions and then rebuild your database and then migrate again (drag the rebuilt iPhoto library to the Photos icon in the Dock)

If repairing the library doesn't help launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see it will work as expected.  Quit and reopen your original library and see if there's any improvement.

Some users have reported that just created a new library helped the old one somehow.  Give it a go.
