windows 10 upgrade causing itunes error (iphone 4)

I've upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 and all is ok except itunes won't recognise my iphone 4

In Device Manager it has a warning sign against iphone

I click on update driver and it says 'Devices are not installed (code 28)

I then search for software and it fails and says 'Error installing Apple Mobile Device USB Driver'

Any help would be gratefully received......

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.2

Hey maccamcb,

If you are having an issue with iTunes not recognizing you iPhone, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article - iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

If you get that far, you can use the link titled Reinstall iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 for Windows 10 as well.

Here are the steps from the Microsoft support site about where to go to uninstall the components in the order listed in the above article:

Repair or remove programs - Microsoft Windows

  1. On the Start menu select Settings.
  2. In Settings, select System > Apps & features.
  3. Select the program, and then select Uninstall.
  4. Follow the directions on the screen.

To reinstall iTunes, you can go to this page - iTunes - Download iTunes Now.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
