Hi wfranie,
We would need more information. What happens when you try to sync the phone? Do you get an error message or does Windows not detect the iPhone?
Hi wfranie, try the steps in this article. There are lots of people having this issue and some of the recommendations here may help. Good luck.
Hi ZikzakCorp, Thanks for your reply, my pc does detect mt iphone but I cant transfer when the phone is plugged into the pc, says something went wrong try again and when I try to sync with itunes its gets to stage 3 of 3 then error message (-54) comes up?
Hi
Since ios 7 when you charge an iphone/ iPad it automatically
Backs up to iCloud .
You can do almost everything over your WiFi .
We have 2 iphones / 3ipads & have not used our PC
For over 2years for them & never had a problem .
Cheers
Brian (UK )
While Brian's comments are correct please keep in mind that your phone has settings regarding what it backs up to iCloud. I only backup my Contacts and Safari Favorites. You would have to set the iCloud Settings to backup the data you want. I have also been told by AppleCare that when one does an upgrade Over The Air, the files transmitted are only the essential changes for the update whereas with iTunes a more comprehensive package is sent since size is not an issue. I have never encounter an issue with an OTA update but I still prefer iTunes and have been advised by AppleCare that it is the preferred method.
I also should mention that there are lots of posts here regarding issues with W10, from not being able to install iTunes to syncing, etc. With W10 being new and Apple and Windows being competitors it make take a while to sort all the drivers on both sides. Good luck.
With Windows 10, my iPhone would sync with iTunes but not allow me to import photos or see it as a disk device to import photos. Here's what worked for me. Connect your phone and attempt to sync with iTunes. Let that run. Then in Device Manager, click under Portable Devices, and you'll probably see "USB MTP Device." Uninstall that device. Then scan for hardware changes and you should see "Apple iPhone" appear where the MTP device was. Go to My Computer and you'll see your phone as it used to appear.
It should look like this when you're done:
