Watch not measuring heart rate/calories correctly

I do a lot of Insanity and P90X workouts and have been very disappointed with my watch. Hopefully someone can answer some questions.

1. What workout setting should i be using for high intensity workouts that include a lot of pushups? It seems that the watch quits working correctly whenever I start doing pushups. For example I will have a heart rate of 171bpm and then start into pushups and while my heart rate is high the watch starts saying my heart rate is 65bpm.

2. The calories burned also seems off. I did a workout with both my iwatch on and also my Polar watch with a heart rate strap. The over all heart rate on my run seemed consistent between the two but at the end of my run by iWatch reported 360 calories burned and the Polar watch reported 525 calories burned. Both setup with height, weight, and age are exactly the same.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1. Apple suggests tightening your watch band before a workout (loosening it again afterwards) in order to retain good contact with your wrist. The sensor will also deliver better results with rhythmic movements (eg running, cycling) than with irregular movements (eg tennis or boxing). There are some other useful tips regarding the heart rate sensor here:

2. You can improve the accuracy of activity-related estimates (including distances and calories) by calibrating Apple Watch (taking your iPhone with you during outdoor walks or runs, connected to your Apple Watch and with Location Services enabled - detailed instructions via the link below).
