Q: Create Apple ID for child not working

I've bought an iPod for my 10yo daughter and want to set up an account for her. Family sharing is set up on *my* iPad, and my Apple ID has a credit card registered against it, as required. I went through the process of creating an Apple ID for a child (as per these instructions Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids - Apple Support). Right at the end the following message appears: "Can't create Apple ID - This action cannot be completed at this time". I've now tried this lengthy process several times and see the same message each time.

I've also tried the same procedure on the new iPod. I tried creating an account, but because I entered a child's DOB I was taken through the same process to create a child's Apple ID, but I get the same message as above.

Any ideas what's going on? I'm now at my wit's end with this, and am thinking of just creating an account and lying about her DOB.

I am having the same problem.  I have tried multiple times to set up my daughter and get the same error message "Can't Create Apple Id - this action cannot be completed at this time".  Did you ever find a solution to your problem?  Any help would be much appreciated.

In the article cited above did you follow these steps:

    Check your payment method

Before you begin, make sure that you're using a credit card, debit card, or UnionPay as your payment method. You can check your payment method from your Apple ID account page or in iTunes.

To comply with child online privacy protection laws, you will use the CVV, verification code sent via SMS, or security code from your payment method as part of providing your parental consent. If you have a different payment method on file, you’ll be asked to change it to a credit card, debit card, or Union Pay before you can continue.

After you create the child's Apple ID, you can change back to a different payment method.

    and

Enter your child's name, tap Next, then create their Apple ID (username@icloud.com) and tap Next.

    Note the "*.icloud.com" username.

Do you get to step 6 before it fails?
