iTunes (iOS8) doesn't track Plays count or Last Played for audiobooks played in iBooks

Since updating to iOS8 (8.4.1) with iBooks, I haven't been able to see the "Last Played" date or "Plays" count in iTunes (12.2.2.25). I used to use playlists for my audiobooks so that I could easily keep track of where I was within the several hundred files and also could easily search in my iTunes library for audiobooks I hadn't listened to yet. I don't know which version of iOS 8 this started with but I find it really annoying as I now don't have a record of which audio books I have and have not listened to. Is anyone else seeing this issue? Any known workarounds?
