If you use that method, be sure to keep the originals on your computer as there is not an easy way to return the synced photos to a computer and any future iTunes syncs will expect the photos to still be on the computer and if they are not, it will delete them from the phone.

Another method is via a 3rd party app such as http://www.photosync-app.com
