FaceTime video quality is low when making a call from my Macbook Pro to iPhone or iPad

I've recently bought a Macbook Pro with retina display. The camera works fine with Skype, etc. It's crystal clear. However, on FaceTime, video quality is extremely low when I'm calling an iPhone or iPad. The picture is so blurry my face can hardly be seen.
