apple software update

OK, so it goes something like this

every time the apple software update pops up on my screen, it courteously interrupts what I was doing and asks me what I want to update based on what it thinks I want + what I already have. The only one I have is QT 7.7.something (truth be told, I so rarely use it I don't pay close attention to the version number) but when the update tool says get the newer version because it fixes bugs that were not fixed last time or created because of a bad fix. whatever.

I always get this feedback loop.

Short of removing QT because I hardly use it (but some websites do, so will leave it there) but any ideas on how to avoid this?
