My iPhone won't sync to my macbook?

Whenever I plug my iPhone 4S in to my MacBook Pro and open iTunes, I'm not able to sync my music from my laptop to my phone. It says there is not enough available space. I tried deleting almost half of my music library, and it still won't work. Please help.
