Target Display Mode not working

Hey guys,

I am trying to connect my macbook air 13" (early 2014) to an iMac 27" (mid 2014)

I am using a thunderbolt cable to connect the two.. There are a lot of posts saying it is as easy as connecting the two and pressing command + f2

But alas It's not working for me and I want to troubleshoot why.

My macbook air only has a thunderbolt and a USB port so I don't know how else I could get this to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I spent $60 on a thunderbolt cable and if it doesn't work I will need to bring it back to apple 😟

Hey kappy,

I have been trying Target Display Mode but its not working.. Even thought i have the hthunderbolt funtionality.

Do you think that the macbook air is not powerful enough to run the TDM?

It is capable of running in TDM, but the problem may be with the iMac or the cable you are using. I'm afraid I have no further ideas as to why it would not be working. Perhaps you should ask one of the Apple technicians at your local Apple store/vendor.
