I have connected my old HP printer to my new Mac Pro by USB - all seems well - It is showing in the devices section. However, when I press print - nothing happens? The printer says it is idle - please help.

With your printer connected did you check the >App Store>update
for a compatible print driver? Just a thought, old HP new computer.
Visit the HP support site to see if they have a compatible printer driver for the OS X version you are using. Or download Apple HP Printer Drivers 3.1 package. See:
