Messages app fails to open after receiving large message

I recently sent my wife a very large message containing around 1,000 emojis and now she's unable to open up her Messages app on her phone (running iOS 7). Is there a way to clear the message via iCloud or on a Mac hooked up to the phone? She obviously can't delete the message on her phone because the app won't open. Any ideas?
