my iphone 5, volume level pop up screen will not turn off/minimise, so it is blocking the screen.
I have rebooted and this morning restored and still it comes visible and then stays visible. turning off the phone seems to temporarily reset it, but it comes back within about half an hour.

I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with your iPhone. Based on your description and the fact that the issue persists after doing a full restore, it sounds like there may be a physical issue with your iPhone, possibly with the volume adjustment buttons.
