Problems printing black text

Origin of the problem:

A user opened a saved recipe obtained from the web in MS Word.

Here's a description of the problem:

Black text does not print from any MS Office 2011 application, Textedit, Pages, or when selecting the "Open in Preview" option on the print dialog screens. The text looks normal on the screen. Documents created directly in Textedit will not print (the color is black).

Any color other than black, or whatever would map to the printer as pure black, prints as expected. It seems to be related to fonts, as bit images of black fonts print fine. Printing from Chrome works fine, though, I'm not sure why.

Here's what I have done:

Checked printer hardware - no problems here, prints black just fine.

Reset font cache - I have purged font caches using "sudo atsutil databases -remove"

Repaired disk permissions using disk utility.

A search of the web and forums made me realize that others may have encountered this. I'm wondering if this could be an exploit or is simply a corrupted font map file somewhere not be reset by the above command line.

Any ideas?

To those of you searching who found this, I have resolved this issue.

Like everyone else before me, it seems, this was hardware failure.

The mac printed fine to another printer.

Replaced the printer and everything started working.

This is in spite of the fact that the print head test sheets came out normal.
