How do I find event alerts in the calendar settings for calender

When I set a date and time in the calendar on my iPhone I have a strike through the line Alert 15 minutes before> . The warning reads: "Alerts" for this calendar are disabled. To allow this alert to fire, enable "Event Alerts" in the calendar settings for "Calendar". I do not get an alarm when the time comes up. What is going on and what is the stupid term "Fire" mean?

"Fire" in this context means "go off" or "sound" or "occur" as in "To allow this alert to sound...."


In the center bottom of the Calendar app, tap "Calendars". In the section "On My iPhone" tap the red "i" in a circle next to Calendar. Swipe down to "Event Alertss" and turn it to on.
