Finder cannot find certain folders on my MacBook

Most of these folders were created before I switched from Windows to my MacBook Air for work. Even though Finder does not display these folders, I can retrieve files and save to these folders when using Word or Excel for my Mac. I have tried to change Finder preferences and have repeatedly tried the Finder 'Go to Folder' function (I get the message "The folder can't be found."), but nothing works. I welcome any ideas for fixing this issue.
