when talking on my iPhone 6, after a few seconds, the quality is degraded sound and the folks on the other end of the line have an issue hearing me

I would make an Appointment at Apple store if its still under warranty just to check iPhone .

Beside the camera on the back is a little hole that is a microphone. If that is blocked, either by the case or if your phone is set with its back on a table or desk, the sound will be distorted. That is a noise cancellation microphone. Try again but make sure you are not blocking the bottom or back microphones.
it's totally unblocked. I will try the Apple Store next.
