The messages app on my MacBook Pro quit on me the other day and now it won't open. Every time I click it it says "Messages cannot be opened because of a problem." I'm not sure how to fix this problem. Can someone please help me out?

Hi,
In the Finder use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key
Select the Library that appears now in the list.
Navigate to Preferences.
Drag com.apple.ichat.plist to the Trash and Restart Messages.
If that does not work repeat with com.apple.imagent.plist and Restart Messages.
Both of these are involved in the logged in state of the app and have details of the Accounts you have in Messages.
In doing this don't do them together.
Having said that neither will loose the account info in the app.

Hi,
I tried this process with both suggestions and it still did not work. I tried to empty my trash with the second file that you said to drag to the trash and it said it cannot be deleted because it is still in use. How do I stop it?

Just restarted my computer and now it won't turn back on.
Hi,
Restart the app.
That should make the app look in the place it should be rather then holding on the a "link" with something that has been moved.

The Computer will not Start Up ?
Try Restarting holding down the SHIFT key (this start up with less extensions)
Open the Font Book app and check the AppleGothic, Helvetica Neue and Lucida Grande Fonts are present and Validate (File Menu).
If they appear to be OK then use the item in the File Menu to Restore Standard Fonts.

HI,
I went to my university's technical center and they couldn't help me get it back on either so I just dropped my computer off at Best Buy. They said they are just going to wipe it or something and replace the hard drive maybe? I'm not sure. It was just too much going on but hopefully my computer/messages starts working again once they fix whatever else is wrong with it.
