iTunes 12.2.25 with OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 is a disaster. Can anyone tell me how I can get rid of it without losing all my music?

iTunes 12.2.25 with OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 is a disaster. 3/4 of the space is wasted in each playlist. I am a writer and an editor by profession and iTunes 12.2.25 will not let me put what I want in a field. There are album covers everywhere which i don't need or want and they are always WRONG. There is an "edit playlist" function which is a dog's dinner -- no way to figure it out, if indeed it works at all. Now a few minutes ago iTunes lost two of my files -- the contents just disappeared. Can anyone tell me how I can get rid of this mess without losing all my music?

"iTunes > Preferences > General > disable the Show Apple Music option. It basically hides all the new features of v.12.2.

While there, make sure you did not enable iCloud Music Library. That would explain the slowness, as iTunes is uploading/downloading your library."
