Disabling automatic opening of itunes when charging

I would like to be able to disable iTunes from automatically opening each time I plug my iPhone to charge off my desktop.

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.0.1

Greetings Fred,

My understanding is that you want to be able to connect your iPhone to your Windows computer in order to charge it but you don't want iTunes to launch. Is this right?

There is an option to do this, which is set in iTunes. Connect your iPhone to the computer - Yes, iTunes will open automatically this time - and select the iPhone. iTunes will look something like this:

User uploaded file

Click Summary in the left sidebar. You will see a display similar to this:

User uploaded file

Checkmark the box next to Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected.

Click Apply.

Note that this must be set individually for each device that you may use with iTunes on this computer, so if you want to do the same thing with an iPad or another iPhone, you will have to repeat the steps with that device attached.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Be well.
