I am always excited to hear about someone using a new feature on their iPhone such as FaceTime. I understand that you are looking for some clarification on how to set up and use FaceTime. The attached article below has great instructions for setting up and using this service.

i actually already found that link you shared. And I've tried the directions, but whenever I sign into FaceTime, I put in my Apple ID and password, it thinks for a little bit, then stops. Doesn't prompt me to do anything, doesn't change screeens, just stops logging in.

I apologize for misunderstanding and thank you for clarifying. I know that you are not seeing any of the messages described at the top of the attached article below, but I would still suggest working through the suggested steps.
If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support

i Have gone through all the steps listed in that link.. Many times, and all it does is sit there and think when I try to log in, then stops. No error messages, or anything.j

this is very frustrating.
