apple tv help!

Where do I start?

First of all, I just got my apple tv for my birthday from my dad. I hooked it up and got everything set up, icloud, itunes, wifi, etc. I tried streaming a movie from my itunes that I had just bought and it displayed a message saying it wouldn't play for around 24 hours, then I thought maybe it was just not downloaded so I tried a different movie. Same issue. Finally figured out it was probably my wifi connection, maybe its just not strong enough so I bought an ethernet cable and plugged that in to my modem and my apple tv........ nada.

So then, I decided to see if I could stream it to my apple tv from my laptop. I got mt desktop to display and everything perfect on my apple tv. When I clicked play, another issue rose.

"The selected movie won't play on one of your connected displays.

This movie can be played on displays that support HDCP(High-bandwidtch Digital Content Protection).

Try moving the iTunes window to a different display. Make sure the entire window is on the supported display."

As you should know, I made sure my home sharing was on on both devices. But I can't seem to win! I'm so frustrated I'm about ready to chuck it all out of the window. I'm not new to apple. I have 3 ipods, and ipad, a macbook, and an apple tv. So, I am used to apple products and love them very well. But, I've never had this many issues with a product before. PLEASE HELP ME! I don't want a great birthday gift be left collecting dust.

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net. If you do this using a computer connected by ethernet, you should get a fairly good indication of your incoming speed from the ISP. If you are using a device connected by wifi you will need to take account of the portion of your internal network being used and the effect it might have on the result you are seeing. Another option is to access your modem (see your manual to determine how to do this) through your web browser or specialist software supplied by your ISP, the software on the modem itself will often tell you your connection speeds somewhere.

1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
