, the seller actually canceled their account , when i got the ipad it shows a message about the ipad being stolen , when i contacted the number on screen its been disconnected , if i ship it to apple will they return it to owner? i dont know what else to do .. ebay wont give me back my money & i dont want stolen property

Donate it for parts? That's about all it's good for, I'm afraid.
the activation lock will prohibit it from being used and if the phone number or contact info on the screen is useless then there's not much you can do.
Who knows, maybe the original owner filled out a police report which will enable the police to return it to them.
Since it has a message displaying the number on it, it probably has "Find My iPhone" installed. If you can, unlocked the iPad and see if you can find the Find My iPhone app. If your connected to Wifi, you should be able to track the rightful owner of the device. I'm not sure if this will work. Let me know if you find the app.
but i live in a whole different state that i bought the ipad from , it had a verizon sim in it.. do u think verizon could track the owner?

Verizon probably couldn't track them, BUT if you give Verizon the SIM number(would be found on the back of the SIM card) they could probably find out who owns the iPad and find the account of that person. Then they would probably have their phone number, email, address, and lots of other useful information. Its worth a shot.

I'm not sure. They probably wouldn't give you the address and everything. They might give you the phone number. If you were able to somehow prove that you had in fact gotten a stolen iPad, I think they would give it to you. If you use Verizon Live Chat or a support forum you could upload a photo of the iPad. Then I think they would believe you.
No, they would not give it to you due to privacy restrictions. They will not accept the iPad. They will advise you to take it to your local law enforcement authorities which is what you should do.

No, Verizon wouldn't give out customer information. But, yes, Verizon corporate stores will take a lost phone or iPad that has Verizon service on it and attempt to return it to the owner. However, it wouldn't be the appropriate way to handle a stolen device.

Any Verizon employee who gave out such information would face immediate termination if they were discovered to have violated customer privacy in that way. The same is probably true of other carriers as well.
the police wont take it , they said there isnt anything they can do with it , at least thats what my boyfriend translated to me , i dont speak not a lick of spanish .. i took it there this morning
I would visit a Verizon retail store. They will probably take the iPad and return it to the rightful owner.
