My power adaptor provides power, but will not charge my laptop, why not??

My power adaptor is refusing to charge my laptop. When it is plugged in, it has a very dim green light on the magsafe part that plugs into the laptop (the one that glows orange when charging, and green when the battery is fully charged). When I click on the battery icon it says "Battery is not charging" but then it also says "Power source: Power adaptor".

Thus the charger is obviously providing power to the laptop, but it is not charging (which is frustrating given that my battery is currently sitting on 6%).

This charger is relatively new as it was replaced by apples approximately 4-5months ago. There doesn't appear to be any external damage to the charger either.

Can anyone help?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), Power adaptor model: A1344
