I have a Macbook Air. I selected FaceTime, when it opened to my surprise, it started to automatically take photos of me. I cannot locate settings in order to have the freedom to adjust settings. Help!

I have a macbook air. I click open FaceTime and was surprised that it began to take photos of me instantly. How do I stop this. I do not see menu of settings that gives me the freedom to make changes. Help!
