27" Thunderbolt Display as monitor on a Lenovo ThinkPad T440s?

Searching for an answer in various discussion groups, I am still confused whether it is possible or not to use a (brand new) 27" Thunderbolt Display as a monitor or second screen to a Lenovo ThinkPad T440s with a MiniDisplay port. Some posts say no, that it requires a Thunderbolt port and will not work with Displayport, while others says that they have no problems... Just connecting them (in the same way I successfully do with my macBook Pro) doesn't work, as whether the TB Display nor the ThinkPad recognizes each other. Could the problem be solved with a certain setup/configuration/driver/adapter or anything, or is it a lost case?
