IOS mail not syncing on IOS device unless I open Mail

Hi,

I am using an iCloud mail account which I'm using from IOS 8 ( iPhone) and Apple Mail ( Yosemite). Everything works fine except one thing: If I read my mail from my Mac, the red dot on my iPhone ( showing number of unread emails) does not update.

I need to open the Mail app on my iPhone so it gets updated.

If I read a mail on my mac and do the same testing with iCloud.com from a browser, I see that the unread mail ( red circle) updates immediately.

Can I get the same functionality on my iPhone ?

Normally icloud supports push for most everyone, as far as I know. So there are two things to check of the top of my head.

1. If you changed something in your settings to preserve a battery life on the phone - reset all settings is a good place to start.

It deletes your personal settings, but does not cause you to lose any info on the phone.

Settings - general- reset - reset all settings.

2. Checking how good your network(wifi or cellular) is the second step.
