I had problems with my iPhone 5a so I went to an Apple Store and they gave me a new one, so I want to know if it's unlocked now. Thank yo.

If your previous iPhone was unlocked then yes otherwise no.
Hi! To check whether your phone is unlocked, simply insert any SIM card different from the one you used with your previous phone. If it works, then the phone is unlocked.
BTW, if you were using an unlocked phone, they should've given an unlocked back to you.
