Iphoto and all its content Disappeared !!!

Hello

My Iphoto and all my photos are Nowhere to be found..!!!. It looks like this is a recurrent problem on MAC, it's been going on for years and... still not fixed. I am so upset to have lost everything (please don't tell me "you should have saved bla bla". I do save from time to time, but at this price for a computer I also expect the thing to also work on its won and not fear it will auto destruct. Also, time machine is not an option to retrieve them on that one, and it created massive bugs and slows down the machine so much I had to turn it off. My MAC is only a year old...

I installed a copy of Office 2011 at some point yesterday, but the library could have disappeared before that. I run 10.9.5.

Please tell me how to retrieve the content and the app. please tell me there is a bug fix 😟

Thank you!

Is there an iPhoto Application in your Applications Folder? An iPhoto Library icon in your Pictures Folder?

Before you can look for a bug fix, you'd need to demonstrate that this is a big and not something more simple - and frankly, likely - such as user error. Can you demonstrate that? Can you replicate the so-called bug? If it is a bug you'll be able to demonstrate it in operation.

Your comments about Time Machine come under the same category. Even if Time Machine is not what you prefer there are - literally - hundreds of other back up applications.

Frankly, using any computer on any OS without a back up is foolhardy.

Hi terence

Thanks for the quick reply.

Everything disappeared. I've read repeated threads of people complaining about this issue over this years, but could not locate a reason / cure.

The fact that you assume it has to be a user error is almost touching (yes, I am new to this forum after all, and its vibrant life of underground geniuses turned gods). Also touching is the not so productive "I-told-you-so" sentence at the end. It's unclear if I am a fool for not backing up (I regularly do, but Time Machine is a pain with this system, so it's not always on) or for buying a MAC in the first place, because, obviously, it will break down for no reasons -and me with it. By the look of your photo ID, I am assuming these comments are pure routine and nothing personal. 🙂

In all seriousness, I haven't done anything differently. I just wanted to back up (see?) my iphone photos and the software with all its content just weren't there anymore. Not in the Application folder. Nada. The Picture Folder was empty too. It now has my recent iphone photos added later on today, in case I was on a streak and lost the iPhone while typing a message on this discussion board (I could not say it enough: back up, back up. back up. Only idiots don't).

If anybody has a -useful- suggestion as to what happened and what to do next... that would be much appreciated!!

Thank you.

SO, explain to me what bug is it that deletes the app and the Library for you. Then find me corroborating evidence - most particularly show me how to repeat the issue - and I'll believe you have found a bug. Because that's what other folks do when they find a bug. The demonstrate its existence and not just opine into the wind. Why should you have a different standard of proof? In the absence of actual evidence, I'll continue to doubt that you have a bug, and continue to suspect user error or some other factor. Lots of folks come on here claiming to have lost everything and usually, without too much fuss, we can help them get it back. It's amazing how frequently it has gone nowhere at all.

For instance, we regularly see folks report the app is gone when all that's happened is the icon is gone from the Dock. We see folks inadvertently log into a new user account. We see folks rename user accounts, all of which can easily give the impression that something more serious is gone wrong.

If you regularly back up then simply restore from the back up.

aaah If I knew what it was... I wouldn't need to post.

In an everyday consumer's vocabulary, a bug means "an issue." This is quite common and clear, that I have an issue and described it. I don't have its real name nor its code name. There is no need for a half-baked essay on standards of evidence.

I believe MAC's ethos is that their products, and forum, are for everyone to use. I am a MAC consumer with a problem to fix and thought I would find intelligent people (ie: with real knowledge + the understanding this is a non-specialist site, for MAC users and lovers)

If you need an audience for a lecture or unproductive, condescending comments about myself or the other users, I am sorry but this is the wrong post for you.

The statement is: I looked where you pointed. The answer is: all is gone. I am not interested in going demonstrating any theory. The back up is not recent enough to have what's needed so that's neither an option nor an answer as to what happened. This is all the story and evidence I have and these are facts.

I was looking for someone with knowledge on out to deal with these facts in a courteous way. It was fun for a minute, but now I will call real pro. Please find another thread to latch on as I am no longer interested in reading your reply.

Not really. A bug is the computer's fault. Something it did, not you. And the reason the distinction is important is that other people read these threads, and reading yours could be worried about the safety of their data. That's why I respond, to say that a: there is no such bug and b: always have a back up.

Now you certainly have an issue. I'm trying to understand what would remove both iPhoto and the iPhoto Library (things which, incidentally, iPhoto simply cannot do) and not else? Or is there anything else missing? Go to your User Library folder. In the Preferences folder is there an iPhoto plist file? If so, what's the modification date on it?

Iphoto and all its content Disappeared !!!
