Podcast episodes not syncing between iPhone and iMac

Hello all - I know versions of this question have been asked but I can't find a solution for my particular problem.

I want my podcasts to sync fluidly between my devices like they used to.

By that, I mean that I want the position I'm at in listening to each episode to sync so that I can pick up where I left off when I move from one device to another. This was no problem before the podcast app arrived. Also, when I delete an episode from one device I want that to be reflected on any other devices.
