Q: Can't copy Photos library

Hi

I have a white unibody macbook running Yosemite 10.10.4.

Hi, I can't copy my photos library to another folder. whenever I do so, around 30% of the task (14Gb over 51) it tells me that some data can't be read/written (error -36). I tried verifying the disks to see if they needed repairing but they were both ok.

Is there anything that I can do?

A:

You may have a bad file - try a clone program to clone it to the new location - they usually are more tolerant - SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (which I use) are both good and are both good to created bootable backups as a second backup in addition to TimeMachine

Hi blasphenomen,
I understand you are having issues trying to copy your Photos library to another folder. Is the other folder on an external drive? Is it formatted for Mac OS X Extended Journaled? I see you've verified both disks, but it's possible that the Photos Library may need to be repaired. The resources below will explain how to do that.

Thank you.
I tried and the backup is running. At a certain point a popup told me that CCC found physical reading errors (i am translating from italian so the wording may be imprecise). It tells me that it will try to copy all it can.

It is weird since disk utility found no issues...
Any clues on this?

Try repairing the library by launching iPhoto with the Option+Command keys held down according to this Apple document: Repair Your Library. They try the copy again.

That sounds like you may have disk issues - make sure you have a good total backup of your system and run Disk Utility (in the utilities folder in your Applications folder) and verify your disk

I already verifyied my disk as stated in my first posts.
However CCC has just finished copying. The errors involved three files only. I imported them in the new library.
