Sure. Have you tried it and had problems? Just copy the image to the system clipboard, click a Numbers cell, and command-v to paste.

Thanks SGIII. But how does it work for photos?
Method 1:
1) locate a picture in the Finder
2) drag and drop the picture file onto a cell
Method 2:
1) in a Numbers document select the menu item "Insert > Choose..." (the last item in the menu)
2) navigate to, and select, the picture
3) select the picture on the Numbers sheet, copy (or cut)
4) select the destination cell, paste
There are probably other methods too
Thanks Wayne. Getting a photo ON the spreadsheet is indeed not a problem. But I would like to make a database with photos associated to particular cells.
Any idea how that would work?
To get the image "into" a cell background so that it's associated (and moves and resizes) with that cell, click "in" the cell before pasting. It may take a little practice and experimenting but once you see how it's done it's easy.
