Starting Internet Recovery taking forever: MBP Late 2011

I'm in the process of upgrading my RAM and changing my HDD to an SSD. Currently I'm trying to enter recovery mode so that I can clone my HDD to the SSD with a cloning kit. However, I've been stuck on a screen saying, "Starting Internet Recovery. This may take a while" for almost 24 hours now. Will I ever get to recovery mode? Would it be worthwhile to turn the computer off and try starting recovery mode again, or am I better off just being patient? I feel like this shouldn't be taking this long. Thanks for your help.
