Do I need to send old wi-fi card back to apple after I change the new wi-fi card?

Hi, my wi-fi card on mac book is not working. I just went to the shop and support guy told me that I need to send old wi-fi card back to apple after I changed it to the new one. But my mac book is not in warranty period.
