macbook pro switching off unexpectedely

Hi all,

I have recently formatted my macbook pro and installed Yosemite thereafter.

My macbook pro then suddenly switches off (randomly once or twice per day) and getting the following error:

Hi! Try Safe Boot:

- Shut down your Mac

- Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button

- Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key

- Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign

- After your Mac boots up, restart it as you usually do.

If this doesn't help, follow the instructions below:

- Shut down your Mac

- Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button

- Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key

- Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign

- Once you see Desktop, start a Disk Utility scan to detect and repair file system errors (don't forget to choose your main hard drive)

- Click on Verify Disk and then, if asked to fix problems, on Repair Disk

- After this, click on Verify Disk Permissions and then on Repair Disk Permissions

- After the process is finished, shut down your Mac and turn it back on after about 30 seconds

Sorry to be the bearer of Bad News.

You have a known problem in the notorious MacBook Pro 6,2 (2010) for which there WAS a large recall program to replace certain failed graphics chips that shipped with a Latent Defect.

Unfortunately, that program has long since expired.

Your MacBook Pro has a Hardware problem. It can be fixed by replacing (not just re-soldering) the Discrete graphics chip, a surface-mounted device (requires special equipment to heat and remove the chip and Install a new one in its place).

You can reduce the problem by using a third-party utility, gfxcardstatus, to force the use of the built-in Integrated graphics ONLY, and never attach an external display.
