Windows 10/iTunes 12.2.2.25 64bit playlist burn to disc failed.

Dell XPS-9530, W/10 Pro recent upgrade from W/8.1 Pro. 64bit O/S.

USB connected DVD burner. HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GP60NB50 USB Device (LG Slim Portable DVD Writer) Worked perfectly in W/8.1 w/iTunes.

iTunes error: The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to.


Troubleshooting effort synopsized.

  • Complete uninstall of iTunes per Apple support instructions.
  • Completely removed all Gear Software
  • Reinstalled iTunes
  • Tested Audio CD playlist burn process. Failed w/ aforementioned error
  • Installed latest Gear software

    Gear Driver Installer 4.021.1

  • Tested Audio CD playlist burn process. Failed w/ aforementioned error
  • Tested Data CD or DVD playlist burn process. Completed normally.
  • Attempted to run iTunes Diagnostics

    No matter what combination of boxes are checked, iTunes is locked up and must be hard cancelled in Windows Task Manager.

  • Roxio Creator NXT 3 will burn any type of DVD/CD combination


I have tried all sorts of options discovered on the internet in trying to fix this issue. I am a competent technician.

This is a problem that the average user WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OVERCOME.


Any help appreciated.


I am able to test attempted fix ideas that you suggest.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.


The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.


Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.


The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.




Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
