I can't find old events on iPhone's calendar search

Is there a way to search for old events on the iPhone? The search functions, both the one inside Calendar and Spotlight, only will search back about one year.

I have Calendar set to sync All Events on my iPhone. The events are there, I just can't search for those that happened before 2014.

Calendar search on my desktop works fine.
