OSX Server 4.1.5 - "Rename" option only appears for some devices

I'm using profile manager to rename devices to a consistent scheme - for most of them, the "Rename" option is possible from the gear icon:

However, for a mixture of other devices (some are MacBook Airs, others are MacBook Pros) the menu is much smaller:

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot why this might be happening?
